William G. Lucas

November 29, 1945 — December 16, 2020

William G. “Billy” Lucas, age 75, of Swansea passed away after a short illness on December 16, 2020. Born and raised in Fall River, he was the son of William J. and Simone (Audette) Lucas. He was a graduate of B.M.C. Durfee High School, Class of 1964. An early graduate of Bristol Community College, he was an active volunteer in BCC’s early history. He also attended Wentworth Institute, University of Tennessee and was a graduate of the University of Lowell (now UMass- Lowell).

Billy was a petty officer 3rd class (E4) in the United States Naval Construction Battalions (Navy Seabees) and was stationed in Guam during the Vietnam War. He was employed as a driver and a dispatcher for J.J. Taylor Distribution Co. in Taunton MA, and a manager at Nira Warehouse in Fall River. He was also a constable for the City of Fall River. He had an avid interest in real estate which began in his youth helping family members with their rental properties and culminated in him owning several multi-family apartment buildings in Fall River. He also taught ceramics classes and was well known for his ceramics booth at the annual Westport Fair. In later years he spent much of his time in his “mill”, collecting used items for resale - or just in case any friend or family member might need them.

Billy was always there for his family. He was the “go-to” guy if anyone needed anything – or was interested in an adventure. His younger cousins remember camping trips in Island Park, ski weekends in New Hampshire and New Year’s Eves in Ocean Grove. Billy enjoyed traveling to Las Vegas, especially with his late brother Bobby.

He is survived by his sister, Jane A. Martins of Swansea (formerly of Nag’s Head NC), his brother Peter D. (Karen) Lucas of Tiverton, nieces Deborah Lucas (Todd Doyle) and Michelle (Joseph) Dumais, nephew Robert (Kathryn) Lucas, stepdaughter Kelly Ray Schnittker of California, and many cousins and friends. He was pre-deceased by his daughter Caitlin Lucas, his brother Robert E. Lucas, and sister-in-law Kathleen Ring Lucas, nephew Stephen Lucas, and his longtime companion Suzanne (Suzie) Vallee.
