William R. Lanning, 81, formerly of Beardsworth Rd., Tiverton, husband of Lorraine (Gadourey) Pereira Lanning, died Monday, October 8, 2007.
Born in Vandergrift, PA, the son of the late Roy and Anna (Gourley) Lanning, he lived in Fall River for many years and in Tiverton for 13 years. He was employed by Firestone Rubber, Yates Rubber and the former Borges Furniture. A Navy veteran or WW II, he served on the USS Huntington. An avid Red Sox fan, he enjoyed spending time with family and friends and crossword puzzles.
Besides his wife of 32 years, he leaves children, Ann Marie Pereira Hathway (widow of Randal Hathway) of Swansea, Mark Pereira and Jennifer Lanning Costa and her husband Manuel, all of Fall River; his children from his first marriage, Mary Loiselle, Helen O'Neil, William Lanning, Jr. and John Lanning, all of Fall River; grandchildren, Nathan, Joshua and Chelsea Hathway and Ashly Pereira; a great-grandson, Trevor Hathway; a sister, Katherine Richards of Vandergrift and nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Mary King.
His funeral will be held Friday at 8:30 AM from the AUCLAIR FUNERAL HOME, 690 So. Main St., Fall River, with a funeral mass in St. Anne Church, Fall River at 9:00 AM. Burial, Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne.
Visitation, Thursday 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 PM. LARGE PARKING AREA BARRIER-FREE ENTRANCE at the rear of funeral home. Donations may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care, 502 Bedford St., Fall River MA 02720.
