William H. Hyland, Jr., 90, of Tiverton, son of William H. Hyland, Sr. and Anna (Hart) Hyland, passed away Monday, April 5, 2021 at home surrounded by his family.
He was the husband of Margaret "Maggie" (Walsh) Hyland for 64 years of marriage; she was his "Wild Irish Rose".
His motto was "Faith, Family, Country". He served his country in the US Air Force earning the rank of Staff Sergeant in Germany during the Korean Conflict and was a proud football player for the US Air Force.
Upon returning after his tour of duty, he worked for New England Telephone & Telegraph, Co. which is now Verizon, retiring with 30 years of service. Bill was a devout and faithful parishioner of St. Peter and Paul's Church until it's closing. He served as Parish Trustee, many other categories along with St. Vincent de Paul Society and as a Eucharistic Minister. He received the Marian Medal award. A volunteer for the Telephone Pioneer, repairing all the talking books for the Perkins School for the Blind.
He spent his winter in Naples, Florida and his annual trips to European countries, with his favorites such as Germany, Lourdes, France and Killybegs, Ireland and was recognized at Normandy in 2018.
Besides his wife, he leaves two daughters, Colleen Hyland (Jason Young) of Southwest Harbor, Maine and Maureen Rawson and her husband Craig Henderson of Tiverton; one granddaughter, Deirdre Strook (husband SFC Ian Scott Strook, US Army) of El Paso, Texas; two grandsons, Christopher Rawson of Portsmouth, RI and Daniel Hyland (wife Joelle) of Bristol Columbia, Canada. He also leaves many devoted nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was predeceased by his two sons, David Hyland and Staff Sergeant Daniel Hyland, USAF and siblings, Maureen Brodeur, Anne Perry, Jeannellyn Blanchette and Donald "Butch" Hyland.
The family would like to thank visiting nurse and hospice CNA, Dan and nurses, Pauline, Celia, Eileen and Kristen.
A visitation will be held Thursday from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM at the Auclair Funeral Home, 690 So. Main St., Fall River.
A Funeral Mass will be held Friday at 10:00 AM at Holy Trinity Church, Stafford Rd. Fall River. MEET DIRECTLY AT CHURCH. Burial, Pocasset Hill Cemetery.
