Walter J. Mitchell, Jr., 66, of Anthony St., Fall River, formerly of Tiverton died Sunday, March 21, 2010. He was the son of the late Walter, Sr. and Margaret (McDonald) Mitchell and the nephew of Mary Smith of Somerset, Rita Hollins of Westport and the late Andrew McDonald, Raymond A. Mitchell, Sr. and Ruth M. Murray and also leaves many cousins. A graduate of BMC Durfee High School and University of Massachusetts, Dartmouth, he was a Fall River Public School teacher and librarian. A 30 year member of the Board of Directors of the Fall River Historical Society, he was an authority, lecturer and author, having studied Fall River history extensively. A railroad and steamship historian, he was also regarded as a noted authority on Lizzy Borden. He was clerk-in-charge of the Mt. Washington Summer Post Office, New Hampshire for over 40 years. His funeral will be held Thursday at 9:00 AM from the AUCLAIR FUNERAL HOME, 690 So. Main St., Fall River, with a funeral mass in St. Mary Cathedral at 10:00 AM. Burial, St. Patrick Cemetery. Visitation, Wednesday 4:00 to 7:00 PM. LARGE PARKING AREA and BARRIER-FREE ENTRANCE at the rear of funeral home. Please omit flowers.
