Virginia H. Harrington

August 31, 1924 — April 7, 2018

Virginia E. Harrington, 93, of Swansea, passed away peacefully
at home on Saturday, April 7. She was the beloved wife of Robert W. Harrington. They were married for 55 years. Virginia was the daughter of the late Joseph Hanley and Elizabeth (Lowney) Hanley. Born in Fall River in 1924, she was the youngest of 5 children: Agnes, Eileen, Edna, and Leonard (all predeceased). Virginia graduated from Durfee High School in 1942 and went on to complete a program at the former Campbell School of Business in New Bedford. Early in her career , she was employed for several years at the Newport Naval Base in the payroll department, and later as an accounts payable supervisor at Arkwright, where she and her husband first met. Later in her career, she worked for many years at Raytheon in Dighton, Massachusetts as a Security Supervisor.
In addition to being a dedicated wife and homemaker, Virginia also enjoyed painting, baking, and dress-making. Besides her husband, Virginia is survived by her niece, Sharyn E. Fuller of Lincoln (husband Ted) and her grandnieces, Kerianne Tarro (husband James) and Deidre E. Carreno (husband Mario) as well as two great grandnieces and two great grand nephews. She is also survived by her cousins Brian J. Lowney and Glenn F. Lowney of Swansea.
Virginia was an Aunt to Joseph B. Wood (deceased) and to his sons, Joseph and Barry Wood, and an Aunt to Diane Kolakowski and Elaine Seskevich.
Virginia's mother Elizabeth (Lowney) Hanley was born in Ireland, and she had 14 cousins. Many family members are still living in the County Cork and County Kerry areas.
Visiting hours at the Auclair Funeral home are respectfully omitted. Virginia's funeral mass will be held on April 18 beginning at 9:30 a.m. at St. Joseph's Church, 1335 North Main Street, Fall River. Burial will take place at St. Patrick's Cemetery, Fall River. Friends and relatives are invited to attend.
