Tasie (Stamatelos) Pappas

Fall River

Tasie (Stamatelos) Pappas, 100, of Fall River, passed away on Wednesday, January 3, 2024, after a brief illness.

She was the loving wife of the late William Nicholas Pappas, and is survived by her daughter, Genevieve (Jenny) Pappas, her sister, Sophie Apostol, nephew Alex and several godchildren.

She was born in Maine but grew up in Greece until 1946. She witnessed the occupation of her country by both the Italians and Germans during World War 2 and served as a volunteer for the Red Cross during that troublesome time. She returned to the United States in 1946 at the age of 23 and married her husband William in 1951 making Fall River her permanent home.

Tasie worked side by side with her beloved husband in their restaurant business, Nick's Coney Island Hot Dogs until he passed away unexpectedly in 1979. After that she ran the business single handedly until her retirement.

In her retirement she traveled extensively including annual trips to Greece and other destinations with her friends and daughter She was a devout member of St Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church and volunteered extensively on many boards and committees. She always greeted everyone with a friendly smile everywhere she went. An amazing cook who loved to entertain, she loved playing cards, crocheting, travel and spending time with friends and family.

The family would like to thank all who helped us during her last few months including her CNA, Lisa, our friends, and the staff at the Fall River Jewish Home; St Anne’s hospital.

Family and friends are invited to her visitation on Tuesday, January 9, 2024, from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Auclair Funeral Home, 690 So.Main St. Fall River.

Her funeral will be held Wednesday January 10, 2024, at 9:30 AM from the funeral home with a funeral service at 10:30 AM at St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church. Burial, Oak Grove Cemetery. Flowers are welcome. Donations may be made in her memory to St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church, 289 N Main St. Fall River, MA 02720.
