Sister Marie Emilia Gauthier, O.P.

Sister Marie Emilia Gauthier, O.P., 94, of Elm St., Dighton, died Monday, October 26, 2009. A 1937 graduate of St. Anne's Hospital School of Nursing, Fall River, she joined the community of the Dominican Sisters of Charity of the Presentation of the Blessed Virgin in 1939 and received her religious Formation in France. She worked in several hospitals in France during the war, returning to the USA in 1946. She then worked at Saint Anne's Hospital for 16 years in various areas: operating room, maternity and woman's ward. Prior to retiring to the Provincial House in Dighton she served the elderly in the nursing homes of the Diocese for 36 years where she was well known for her compassionate care. She leaves a brother, Reginald A. Gauthier of Fall River and nieces and nephews. She was the daughter of the late Calixte and Emilia (Michaud) Gauthier and the sister of the late Calixte, Eugene, Imelda, Albert, Alice, Hector and Rev. J.H. Leon Gauthier. A funeral mass will be held Thursday at 10:00 AM in the Chapel of the Dominican Sisters' Provincial House, 3012 Elm St., Dighton. Burial, Notre Dame Cemetery. Visitation, in the Chapel, Wednesday from 5:00 to 7:00 PM, with a prayer service at 6:30 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations to, Retirement Fund, Dominican Sisters of the Presentation, 3012 Elm St., Dighton MA 02715 appreciated.
