Shirley J. (Simmons) Meyers

Shirley J. (Simmons) Meyers, 79, of Tiverton, wife of BMCM John E. Meyers, USN (Ret.), died Tuesday, May 6, 2014, following a long battle with cancer. She was employed by General Electric, Newport and several Newport restaurants. Besides her husband of 22 years, she leaves a son, Robert W. Simmons (wife Dawn) of Tiverton; stepdaughters, Dawn Gagne (husband Jeffrey) of Longmont, CO, Jane Walker (late husband Gary) of Brooklyn, CT, Kelly Chartier of Swansea and Johnna Schwartz (husband Jeffrey) of Fall River; siblings, Robert Murphy (wife Caroline) of Dallas, TX, Judith Murphy Rowe and Jane Keith (husband John), all of WV; grandchildren, great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews. She was the mother of the late Wallace E. Simmons; the stepmother of the late Gale Vick; the sister of the late Anna Lee McDaniel and David Murphy (wife Sheila of Dallas, TX) and the daughter of the late George and Roxie (Daniel) Murphy. Her funeral will be held Saturday at 9:00 AM from the AUCLAIR FUNERAL HOME, 690 So. Main St., Fall River with a funeral mass at St. Christopher Church, Tiverton at 10:00 AM. Burial, Pocasset Hill Cemetery. Visitation, Friday 5:00 to 8:00 PM. LARGE PARKING AREA and BARRIER-FREE ENTRANCE at the rear of funeral home.
