Shirley A. Berube

May 27, 1943 — September 4, 2024

Westport

It is with extreme sadness that we announce the passing of Shirley Ann (Pimental) Berube of Westport,

MA on, Wednesday September 4, 2024. She was 81 years of age.

Shirley was born on May 27, 1943, to Eugene and Elsie (Monteiro) Pimental. She grew up in Fall River,

MA where she met the love of her life and husband of over 60 years, Richard Berube. They settled in

Westport, MA where they lived out their life together, raising Two daughters.

Shirley was an exceptional self-taught cook who loved to prepare a wide variety of dishes when

entertaining family and friends. This great aptitude for cooking and providing tasty meals to others was

passed down to both daughters, Deborah and Robyn. Shirley took great pleasure in celebrating major

holidays, going all out to decorate the entire house and create a truly joyful environment year after

year. She took great pride in keeping the house neat inside and out. She loved going to functions

dressed to the nines with her closest circle of friends but also loved the nights spent at home in

comfortable clothing hosting lively games of cards with neighbors, family members, and friends

punctuated by her incredibly infectious laugh. Shirley became increasingly passionate over the years

about professional sports teams as well, with particular interest in the Boston Bruins. Shirley was a

devoted parishioner of Our Lady of Grace Church as well as a devoted grandmother to three

grandchildren who she cherished spending time with no matter the occasion. More than anything else,

however, Shirley loved her late husband, Richard Berube.

After originally crossing paths after school one day, Shirley bravely approached the charismatic Richard

at a social outing one night where, during a ‘ladies choice’ she asked him to dance. Throughout the years

Shirley and Richard would jitterbug the night away at various family functions when the opportunity

presented itself and it was always a joy to watch.

Shirley is survived by her daughter Deborah Cooney and her husband Joseph Cooney of Rochester, MA,

daughter Robyn Berube-Goncalo of Fall River, MA, Grandchildren: Brendon, Hunter and Madison

Cooney, in addition to many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Shirley Berube was preceded in death by her husband, Richard E. (Dick) Berube and is also remembered

by her parents, Eugene and Elsie (Monteiro) Pimental, and her brothers Eugene (Gene), Gerald (Gerry)

and Ricky Pimental.
