Selwyn Epstein

On Saturday, October 12, 2013, Selwyn Epstein passed on after living 91 years. He was the youngest of four children born to Sander and Rae (Patel) Epstein, and was predeceased by his siblings, Lillian Schneider, Ethel Rothenberg and Seymour Epstein. Selwyn was born and raised in New York City where he went to public schools and graduated Phi Beta Kappa from Columbia University. During World War II, he served in the Signal Corps as a Lieutenant in the United States Army. After the war, he moved to Fall River and went to work at Shelburne Shirt Company, his family's business, where he enjoyed spending his entire career. He was married to Hilda Jaffe for nearly 25 years, and with her he had two sons, Mark and Wayne Epstein who along with their wives, Kelly and Jennifer, survive. He is also survived by his four grandchildren - Benjamin Epstein (April Burleson), Sander Epstein, Alice Moore (Vinse), and Mandy Epstein. A graveside service will be held at Oak Grove Cemetery on Tuesday at 2:00 PM. Donations in Selwyn's memory should be made to The United Way of Greater Fall River, PO Box 2550, Fall River MA 02722.
