Roy M. "Mac" MacDonald, 86, of Halifax, MA, husband of Annette (Levasseur) MacDonald, died at home, Thursday, August 16, 2012, surrounded by his family.
An Army veteran of WW II, and recipient of numerous decorations including the Bronze Star Medal, he participated in the 42nd Rainbow Division's liberation of the Dachau concentration camp, being the third soldier in. He late served in the Air Force during the Korean War.
He was employed at the VA Hospital, Brockton and was a residential landlord for many years. He enjoyed his hunting camp at Grand Lake Stream's Third Machias Lake and traveling to Florida. He was a skilled carpenter and a member of the Tri-Town Masonic Lodge.
Besides his wife of 42 years, he leaves four children from a previous marriage, Patricia MacDonald of El Paso, TX, Brenda Dupont (John) of Anna, TX, Charles MacDonald (Regina Esposito) of Grand Lake Stream, ME, and Roy MacDonald, Jr.; grandchildren Kristin MacDonald, David MacDonald, Tracie Hostler and Jon Brown and 7 great-grandchildren. He was the son of the late Charles and Beatrice (Hickey) MacDonald.
His funeral service will be held Monday at 11:00 AM in the AUCLAIR FUNERAL HOME, 690 So. Main St., Fall River. Entombment, Notre Dame Cemetery Mausoleum.
Visitation, Monday morning prior to the service from 10:00 to 11:00 AM. Please omit flowers.
