Ronald A. Halbardier of Westport, MA passed away peacefully on March 9, 2025 at the age of 86. Born in Fall River, he was the son of the late George Halbardier and Blanche (DuPont) Halbardier. Ron was a graduate of B.M.C. Durfee High School and entered the United States Navy in 1955 where he proudly served his country for 6 years, including tours on the U.S.S. Davis.
Following his service, Ron attended UMass Dartmouth, Bridgewater State University, and Stonehill College. He ultimately earned a Bachelor of Arts and Master’s Degree in Education. He was awarded his Massachusetts Teaching and Principal Certification in 1968, thus commencing a rewarding career in the Fall River school system. He was not only a memorable elementary school teacher, but a mentor dedicated to the success of his students in and outside of the classroom. He is remembered by his students as an inspiration, and many maintained contact with Ron over the years. Beyond his skill as an educator, Ron found success as a realtor and in addition served as the Tax Assessor for the town of Tiverton, RI.
Ron was married to the love of his life, Carolyn (Walsh) Halbardier for a blissful 61 years. Ron was thoroughly devoted to being a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He spent many summers enjoying Horseneck Beach with family and their numerous friends. After retirement, Ron and Carolyn embarked on cruises and escaped the New England winters to spend time at their home in Florida.
Ron was a devout Catholic and on each holiday his family would look forward to the thoughtful prayer he had prepared. He was constantly reading and learning and was a lifelong enthusiast of classic cars. He stayed active with baseball and handball as a young man, and played tennis well into his seventies. Ron also enjoyed photography, music, current events, and of course, Boston sports. He was recognized for his signature beard, easy laugh, and in later years, his favorite black leather jacket.
Besides his wife, Carolyn, he leaves two daughters, Holly Andrade of New Bedford and Beth MacKinnon (husband Stuart) of Wellesley Hills. In addition he is survived by three grandsons, Sam Helger of Fall River, Kyle MacKinnon (wife Mary) of Boston and Cameron MacKinnon of Boston. He was predeceased by his brother George Halbardier Jr. and sister Lucille Conroy.
