Robert Tavares

Robert Tavares, 73, of Westport, formerly of Fall River, husband of Patricia (Botelho) Machado-Tavares, died Tuesday, June 4, 2013. A 103rd Airborne Division, Army veteran of the Vietnam War, he was a member of the American Legion and the Vietnam Veterans, Westport. A Long Haul Trucker, he was a member of the Teamsters Union and also the Liberal Club Holy Ghost Society. Besides his wife of 12 years, he leaves 2 children; grandchildren, Kurt and Lauren Tavares; great-grandchildren Braden Robert and Laila Elizabeth Flores all of Florida; a stepdaughter, Denise Mello and her husband Scott; step-grandchildren, Adam and Tyler Mello, and his mother-in-law Ella Botelho, all of Westport; and nieces and nephews. He was the son of the late Manuel and Mary (Souza) Tavares and the brother of the late Elizabeth Tavares. His funeral service will be held Saturday at 10:00 AM in the AUCLAIR FUNERAL HOME, 690 So. Main St., Fall River. Burial, Newport Memorial Park, Middletown, RI. Visitation, Friday 5:00 to 8:00 PM. LARGE PARKING AREA and BARRIER-FREE ENTRANCE at the rear of funeral home. Donations, in lieu of flowers, to Dana Farber Cancer Institute, 450 Brookline Ave., Boston MA 02215, appreciated.
