Richard Souza, Sr., 90, passed away peacefully on March 7, 2025, at Charlton Memorial Hospital. He was the husband of the late Jean P. (Parker) Souza.
Born in Fall River, MA, he was the son of the late Frank and Georgelina (Branco) Souza. He was a lifelong resident of Fall River.
Mr. Souza was a United States Army Veteran, serving three years in the Korean War, where he earned two Bronze Stars and multiple service medals.
Richard, “Richie,” a loving father, grandfather, and great grandfather was known for his quick wit, infectious laughter, and unwavering kindness. He was a pillar of support for his family as well as his friends.
He enjoyed traveling, he loved the ocean, fishing, and taking long walks with his dog, Brody. Most of all, he took pleasure in spending time with his wife of 64 years and 9 months, as well as his family.
He worked many years as a meat cutter and butcher as well as a manager for Eatwell Provisions. He went on to own his own business, R & J Salvage and Steel Cutting.
He is survived by his two children, Richard Souza, Jr. and his wife Deborah, of Fall River; and Patricia (Souza) Munroe and her husband William, of Fall River; 6 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great-grandchildren; and his siblings, Ruth Vallencourt, Dorothy Desmarais, George Souza, and Beverly Parker.
He was the father of the late James E. Souza and brother of the late Frank Souza, Jr. and Cynthia Aguiar.
His visitation will be held on Friday, March 14, 2025, from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM from the Auclair Funeral Home, 690 So. Main Street, Fall River with committal prayers and burial following at Notre Dame Cemetery.
