Richard L. Emond, 89, of Swansea, husband of Doris (Henley) Emond, passed away September 23, 2023. Rick was a Korean War veteran. He served four years in the Navy as a BT2. Then he served 20 years in the Naval Reserve and 8 years in the Massachusetts Army National Guard as a Military Policeman, earning the rank of Staff Sergeant. He completed a total of 32 years, retiring in 1984.
He was also a member of the American Legion Post 228, and the Tin Can Sailors. He was employed by J & J Corrugated Box for 40 years. An avid sportsman and hunter, Rick preferred archery. Richard was a life member of High Hill Fox and Coon Club, New Bedford Rod and Gun Club, Fall River Rod and Gun Club, Massachusetts BowHunters Assn., Veterans Association of Bristol County and the National Rifle Association.
Besides his wife of 69 years, he leaves a son, Lt. Richard Gregg Emond, FRFD, Ret. (wife Elaine M.) and their children, Richard Zackary Emond (girlfriend Sarah) and Aaron G. Emond, USN and Stephanie M. Erhard (husband Joshua); two twin daughters, Beverly Balan (husband Arnaldo) and their children Christopher Balan (girl friend Samantha), Michael Balan (wife Samantha), and daughter Brenda Lee Woodcock (husband Bruce) and their children Lisa Rauer (husband Justin) and Andrew Woodcock (wife Yuri);
He also leaves 10 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Richard was the son of Leo and Mabel (Thompson) Emond and the brother of the late Shirley Bruneau, Robert Emond and Roland Emond.
Visitation will be held Thursday, September 28, from 10:30 AM to 11:30 AM with a funeral service at 11:30 AM at the Auclair Funeral Home, 690 S.Main St. Fall River. Burial, Massachusetts National Cemetery.
