Richard Andrew Bailey, 76, of Fall River, passed into eternal rest Wednesday, November 30, 2022. He was the adopted son of the late Andrew and Catherine (O’Connell) Bailey and was the birthson of the late Caroline (Cotton) Graves of Peabody. Richard lived in Boston most of his life until moving to Fall River in 2002.
He leaves his longtime companion and wife Marie (Morais) Kirkman Bailey; a son,Richard Bailey Jr. (wife Regina) of Maine;
a daughter, Cindy Bailey Roy (husband Michael) of North Carolina;
a stepson, Devon Kirkman (fiancée Natalia Merhi) of New Bedford; three grandchildren: Evan and Seth Roy and Avery C Kirkman; four siblings: Susan Graves Callahan of Milton, John Graves of Marshfield, Robert Graves of Peabody and Edward Graves of Lowell.
Richard also leaves many nieces and nephews.
Proudly serving in the US Army from 1963 to 1965, Richard was stationed in South Korea and Fort Bragg, North Carolina.
His education included a degree in Criminal Justice from Northeastern University,
a Bachelors of Art and Masters Degree from UMass Boston.
Richard was employed by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts as Director for Dept of Youth Services, Charlestown; Director of the Answer House, South Boston; Vocational Counselor, with Massachusetts Rehab Commission; Quality Assurance Examiner, with Social Security Administration, Boston
Richard retired in 2014 and began spending winters in his Florida home. He enjoyed boating and he could sit by the water for hours on end. He also enjoyed traveling and reading, there were not many topics that he did not read up on.
Richard was a man of a few words and a dry sense of humor. He had a big heart and was always willing to help anyone in need. Although brought up as an only child he was embraced and loved by Marie’s brothers, sisters, nieces and nephews whom he adored. Later in life, he was fortunate to find his biological family who also embraced him with open arms. He enjoyed time spent with family and friends, especially his grandchildren that he loved so much.
Relatives and friends are invited to a visitation on Monday, December 5, from 8:00 A.M. to 9:15 A.M. at the Auclair Funeral Home, 690 South Main St. Fall River.
His Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated following at St. Mary’s Cathedral, Spring St. Fall River, at 10:00 A.M. Entombment will take place at Notre Dame Cemetery Mausoleum.
