Rev. Roger J. Levesque

Rev. Roger J. Levesque, 84, of Fall River, passed away Monday, July 23, 2018.

Born and raised in Fall River, he attended Notre Dame Grammar School, graduated from the former Msgr. Prevost High School in 1951, and then studied at Assumption College in Worcester. He continued his education in seminary studies at Montreal, Canada, studying at both Séminaire de Philosophie and the Grand Séminaire de St. Sulpice. Father Levesque was ordained to the Priesthood by the Most Reverend James L. Connolly on April 25, 1959. He served as parochial vicar at St. Anne's Parish in New Bedford, Notre Dame in Fall River, St. Theresa in South Attleboro, and St. Joseph in New Bedford. He was named pastor of St. Elizabeth's in Edgartown in 1977; St. Joseph's in Attleboro in 1981; St. Michael's in Swansea in 1983; and St. Joseph's in New Bedford in 1994. From 1999 to 2004, he served as Founding Pastor of St. Joseph-St. Therese Church (formerly St. Joseph Church) in New Bedford where he remained until retirement.

He leaves his sister Claire Guillemette (late husband Armand) of Texas, seven nieces and nephews, 21 grandnieces and nephews and 18 great-grandnieces and nephews. He was the son of the late Romeo and Germaine (Lavoie) Levesque.

His funeral mass will be held Saturday at 10:00 AM at St. Bernadette Church, Fall River. Visitation will be held at the church Saturday morning prior to the funeral mass from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM.
