Paul A. Dumais, 93, of Bardsley St., Fall River, husband of the late Lucienne "Lou" (Gaudreau) Dumais, passed peacefully Wednesday, September 10, 2014 surrounded by his loving children. He was the son of late Leo and Rose (Courchesne) Dumais. Staff Sgt. Dumais served in the Army Air Force during WWII. He was a graduate of Msgr. Prevost High School. Paul had two careers first working in the field of Traffic Management and later as a loan officer, and credit committee chairman at Notre Dame Federal Credit Union, retiring in 2013. He was appointed Police Commissioner under Mayor Roland Desmarais in 1964. Paul served as President of many organizations including Traffic Club of Southeastern MA, First Friday Club, Club Richelieu, Holy Name Society of Notre Dame Parish, and Franco-American Civic League. Paul was Charter Member of the Msgr. Prevost Chapter of the Knights of Columbus. He served as a Eucharistic Minister, altar server, Lector, member of the church choir and Trustee of Notre Dame Parish. Paul was awarded the Marian Medal and was named "honorary brother" by the Brothers of Christian Instruction. He was lovingly known as "Mr. Prevost" for his many years of dedicated work in founding Msgr. Prevost Alumni Association and scholarship committee. Paul is survived by his four children: Paul Dumais and wife Mary of Plymouth, Pat Dumais and husband Bill Lane of California, Peter Dumais and wife Robin of Florida, Pauline Dumais of Fall River; six grandchildren: Culien Ortiz, Justin Anderson, Brittany Pearo, Chelsea Dumais, Jeffrey Dumais and Joseph Dumais; as well as eight great grandchildren. He was pre-deceased by a son Marc Dumais, his sisters Therese Chabot and Rita Paradise, and daughter-in-law Rosemary (Mathews) Dumais. His funeral will be held Saturday at 8:30 AM from the AUCLAIR FUNERAL HOME, 690 So. Main St., Fall River, with a funeral mass at St. Bernard Church, Assonet at 10:00 AM. Burial, Notre Dame Cemetery. Visitation, Friday from 4:00 to 8:00 PM. LARGE PARKING AREA and BARRIER-FREE ENTRANCE at the rear of funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Brothers of Christian Instruction, PO Box 159, Alfred ME 04002.
