Omer Dupuis

Omer Dupuis, 75, of 1748 Highland Ave. Fall River, formerly of Ridge St., died Friday, March 2, 2007 at Highlander Nursing Center, Fall River. He was the companion of Mary (Perno) Roskott of Norton and the former husband of Laurette (Lavoie) Dupuis of Amesbury. A lifelong resident of Fall River, he was the son of the late Wilfred J. and Angelina (Lafreniere) Dupuis. Mr. Dupuis had been employed by Firestone Rubber, Fall River, the former Terminal Bakery, Fall River and Colonial Provision Co., Boston. Also a bus driver for S.R.T.A, Fall River, he retired in 1996. He was an Army veteran of the Korean War. In 1957, Mr. Dupuis founded the Greater Fall River Fast-Pitch Softball League and the first edition of the Women's Slow-Pitch Softball League. In 1977, he received an appreciation award for his years of contributions as a player, manager, officer and umpire. He also received in 1991, the Bristol County Umpires' Association Award for 20 years of dedicated and unselfish service to softball umpiring. Besides his companion and former wife, he leaves a son, Richard Dupuis of Fall River; a daughter, Denise Tamburello and her husband Victor of Amesbury; 4 grandchildren, Alexander, Audra and Abbey Tamburello, all of Amesbury and Julie Marie Dupuis of Fall River; and nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Wilfred J. Dupuis, Jr. and Armand J. Dupuis. Funeral Tuesday at 10 AM from Auclair Funeral Home, 690 South Main St. Fall River, with a funeral mass in Notre Dame Church, Eastern Ave. at 11 AM. Burial in Mass. National Cemetery, Bourne. Calling hours Monday from 4 to 8 PM. LARGE PARKING AREA and barrier-free entrance at the rear of funeral home.
