Mildred (Kenney) Laflamme

July 20, 1922 — September 2, 2023

Mildred “Milly” (Kenney) Laflamme, 101, of Georgetown, Maine, passed away peacefully on September 2, 2023. She was the cherished wife of 72 years of the late Arthur L. Laflamme. Milly was born in Fall River on July 20, 1922, where she and Arthur lived until their move to Georgetown, Maine, in 2012 to enjoy their final years with their daughter Léa and her husband John Peterson.

Milly had a strong work ethic, maintaining a full-time job while raising her two daughters. She worked for years in the Fall River mills before returning to Durfee High School in her 40s to earn her equivalency diploma. She then worked at the New England Telephone Company until her retirement. Milly was a devout Catholic, a faithful parishioner of Notre Dame Church. But above all, Milly was a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She treasured every moment spent with her family.

Milly is survived by her two daughters, Léa Peterson and her husband John of Georgetown, ME, and Rita Refkofsky and her husband Ronald of Shelton, CT; four grandchildren: Kristin Angello (Michael), Michael Refkofsky (Caitlin), John Peterson (Michelle), and Bennett Peterson (Kathleen); eight great-grandchildren, Phoenix and Domenic Angello, Spencer and Abigail Peterson, Sean and Cora Refkofsky, and John and Alexandra Peterson; sister-in-law Yvette Desrosiers (Joseph); brother-in-law Rene Saurette; and several nieces and nephews. She was the daughter of the late James F. and Mary Louise (Labonte) Kenney, and the sister of the late Louise Arnold, Lillian Gariepy, Theresa Jean, and James, Raymond and William Kenney.

Milly enjoyed her retirement years with her husband: daily walks, bus trips and travel to Canada and numerous states including Hawaii. When they moved to Maine, they continued their walks, this time on the beach at Reid State Park. Up until her death, Milly enjoyed simple pleasures:
watching the ducks, deer, hummingbirds and chipmunks at her daughter’s home on the coast of Maine, reading novels, completing jigsaw and word search puzzles, and scratching lottery tickets. She maintained a sense of humor and an inquisitive nature throughout her life. She will be dearly missed and forever loved.

The family expresses their deepest gratitude to the staff of Horizons Living and Rehab Center in Brunswick, Maine, for their compassionate care during the last 2 years of Milly’s life, and appreciates the end-of-life care from the Chan Hospice team, also in Brunswick.
