Maurice L. Belanger, 91, of Somerset, formerly of Fall River and Westport, husband of the late Doris (Roy) Belanger, died Saturday, January 17, 2009.
He worked in freight transportation as operations manager for Fall River-New Bedford Express and as a dispatcher for Providence Steamboat Co.
An army veteran of WW II, and 57th. Signal Battalion Tech. Sgt. he served in No. African and European Campaigns and was the recipient of the Bronze Star Medal, a Silver and 3 Bronze Campaign stars and Bronze Arrowhead.
He was a member of Anzio Beachhead Veterans Assn., 57th. Signal Bn. Assn., L'association Rhin et Danube, American Order of the French Croix de Guerre, life member of VFW Post 486, former President and Director SJB Credit Union and a member of Thomas Chew Boys Club, North American Hunting Club and National Rifle Assn.
He leaves 2 children, Pierre H. Belanger and his wife Pamela of Corona, CA and Denise M. Rousseau and her husband Serge of Assonet; grandchildren, Aimèe Stenborg (husband Erick), Martine and Catherine Rousseau, Eva and Matthew Belanger and Nicole Paraiso (husband Ben) and a great-grandson, Quinan Paraiso.
He was the father of the late Michelle Belanger; the son of the late Henri and Marie Louise (Thibault) Belanger and the brother of the late Sister Marguerite Belanger, PM and Robert Belanger.
His funeral will be held Thursday at 9:00 AM from the AUCLAIR FUNERAL HOME, 690 So. Main St., Fall River, with a funeral mass in Our Lady of Grace Church, Westport, at 10:00 AM. Burial, Notre Dame Cemetery.
Visitation, Wednesday 4:00 to 8:00 PM. LARGE PARKING AREA and BARRIER-FREE ENTRANCE at the rear of funeral home. Donations to Faxon Animal Rescue League, 474 Durfee St., Fall River MA 02720 would be appreciated.
