Maureen C. Harrington, 86, of Fall River, passed away Tuesday, July 21, 2015. She was born in Fall River the daughter of the late William H. and Catherine (Madden) Harrington; the sister of the late William H. and Eleanor (Kaiser) Harrington, Jr. and John F. Harrington; the aunt of the late Eileen Bowman of TX and the dear friend of the late John McAvoy. She leaves nieces and nephews, William H. Harrington, III of RI, Kathleen Humphrey and her husband George of MA, John Harrington of MA, Michael Harrington and his fiancée Lynne Parent of FL, and Paul Harrington and his wife Jo-Ann of PA, and all of their children and grandchildren. Maureen graduated from B.M.C. Durfee High School. Her most prized memory of those days was the time she spent as the school's majorette. She also attended Bristol Community College and believed in continual improvement through education. Along with her friend John McAvoy, Maureen was involved in the management of a number of Fall River theaters as well as of the Somerset Theater in Somerset, MA. Through these activities, she met and got to know personally many of the most famous stars of the 1940's and 1950's. After the great old theaters were converted into cinemas, she and John conducted tours at Lady Astor's "Beechwood" summer home in Newport. Following that, they ran a travel business that offered theater trips to Boston, New York City, and Connecticut. They also sponsored major trips to Europe including Paris, Berlin, Rome, London, Vienna, and other major cities. She travelled abroad over 50 times during those memorable days. Her favorite trips by far were to Vienna and Madeira Island - she would have loved to go to Madeira just one more time. Throughout her life, Maureen was known for being a strong Christian with a spirit of always caring for family and friends in need. She knew from early on that Our Lord said "I desire mercy" (readiness to help those in trouble) [Matthew 9:13, Hosea 6:6] and that's how she spent her entire life. Right into her 80's, she was there for those who needed a ride to the doctor, an errand performed, a hot meal, or just someone to talk to. She never seemed to run out of steam. Her funeral will be held Monday at 9:00 a.m. from the AUCLAIR FUNERAL HOME, 690 So. Main St., Fall River, with a funeral mass at St. Joseph's Church at 10:00 a.m. Interment, St. Patrick's Cemetery. Visitation, Sunday from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. Large parking area & barrier-free entrance at the rear of funeral home. Donations may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, 150 Cambridge Park Dr., # 202, Cambridge MA 02140 or the Salvation Army, 290 Bedford St., Fall River MA 02722-0444.
