With heavy hearts, we are sad to announce the loss of our loved one,
Matthew Jamison Souza, 43, of Tiverton, RI, who passed away unexpectedly on
May 5, 2024. He was the son of Janet Marie (Campion) Souza, the late John
Souza and the step-son of the late Gregory "KK" Moses.
Besides his mother, he leaves behind his brother Keith Souza and wife Catherine, his sister Kimberly
Souza and life partner Meghan Lewis, his love and soul-mate Elise French,
and their fur-baby german shepherd, Ragnar, beloved aunts and uncles and
cousins, along with his best friend Doug Waite. Matthew was a bright star in an
often difficult world and will be missed by so many. Anyone who knew Matthew
knew the type of soul he had and how difficult this loss is to our family.
Matthew graduated from Tiverton High School in 1998. He was extremely
multi-talented and excelled in everything he set his mind to. Growing up, Matthew
dedicated his time to music, a passion which was not only inspired by and shared
with his brother, but also passed down to his sister. Matthew was the true
definition of a rock star. Many knew him as one of the most elite guitarists, often
compared to some of the greatest. He was the lead guitarist/vocalist in several
bands playing in a number of shows throughout his life, but was mostly known for
his initial band Zorath. When he wasn’t playing music, he enjoyed skateboarding,
snowboarding and drawing which he mastered quite easily. As a true artist,
Matthew won many awards for his sketches. After starting his own company,
following his grandfather's life-long occupation, Matthew quickly became known
within the community as one of the most skilled roofers, bringing his artistic
capabilities, drive and intellect to the job.
Matthew will not only be remembered for his talents, but also for his
compassion and loving nature. He was a loyal friend who would give the shirt off
his back for you. Matthew's kindness extended beyond his family and friends. He
was always an avid animal lover. Growing up surrounded by many pets, he
inherited his love for shepherds. He was as humorous as he was serious. Often a
man of few words, Matthew had a brilliant mind and a vast imagination that
allowed him to surpass his many endeavors in life. Matthew will forever be known
as an extraordinary man who was taken from all of us far too soon and will never
be forgotten.
