Martha P. Berube of Tiverton, Rhode Island, (formerly of Somerset, MA of 50 years) passed away peacefully in her 93rd year on September 21, 2022 surrounded by her loved ones. Martha was married to the late Wilfred A. Berube for 53 years. Born in Fall River, she was a daughter of Joseph Isadore Pelletier and Cecilia (Houde) Pelletier, sister of Yvette (Pelletier) Wood and the late Jeannine (Pelletier) Scanlon.
Martha graduated from the former Jesus Mary Academy in Fall River in 1946, finding her first job as a bookkeeper at Berube's Dairy in Somerset, MA.
There she met the love of her life, Wilfred. They married in 1949 and were devoted to raising their family. Martha continued working as a bookkeeper until she retired in 1998 From Barrington Lumber.
Over the years, Martha enjoyed playing tennis, bridge, reading, traveling, and was an avid Boston sports fan.
Above all, she and her husband enjoyed time with their children & grandchildren; also with their siblings and life-long circle of friends.
Martha leaves behind her children David Berube and his wife Leslie of Portsmouth, Michael Berube and his wife Deborah of Tiverton, Patricia (Berube) Buchanan and her husband Gary of Taunton and Susan Berube of Fall River. Martha was predeceased by her son, Thomas P Berube of Fall River. She also leaves behind her grandchildren Jonathan Berube (partner Charrelle Liberatore), Joshua Berube, Nicole (Berube) DeAlmeida (husband Brian) and great-granddaughter Adrianna Alice DeAlmeida. Additionally she is survived by several nieces and nephews.
On behalf of the Berube family, a heartfelt thank you to the Brookdale Sakonnet Bay memory care unit's myriad of CNAs and others for their loving care, kindness, and friendship given so freely and tirelessly for Martha over the past two years; especially Philomena, Cecilia, Melissa, Anna, Laura, and Fatou.
Per Martha’s request, her body will be donated to the Harvard Medical School in Boston, MA. There will be no waking hours. Services will be private. Arrangements are under the care of Auclair Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, please consider random acts of kindness in the memory of Martha.
