It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Marie Jeanne (Gauthier) Chaunt on Saturday, November 9th, 2024.
Born on June 30th, 1939 in Fall River, MA, Jeanne (the name used by those closest to her) was the matriarch of the Chaunt family and lived a life full of meaning, compassion and purpose from early on. She married the love of her life, Raymond Chaunt in 1958 and they were happily married for 57 years, until he passed away in 2016. Together, they created the foundation to build a meaningful life for their family in Fall River.
Jeanne cherished her family above all else and was the best mom to her six children: Diane Leduc (Thomas Provost) of Tiverton, RI; Denise Augustine (Wayne) of Las Vegas, NV; Susan Acosta (Roberto) of Fall River, MA; Karen Eipert (William) of Pittsford, NY; Robert Chaunt (Lisa) of Fall River, MA; and David Chaunt (Susan Costagliola) of Rockland, MA. While many of her kids lived outside of New England, Jeanne never let distance get in the way of her relationships and often traveled over state lines to spend time with them. She never missed the annual Chaunt Christmas Party or the annual Chaunt Summer Bash. Some of her favorite family trips were to Canada, Las Vegas, New York and most recently Missouri.
Jeanne is also survived by her 12 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren and siblings: Annette Bouchard, Edouard Gauthier, Robert Gauthier, and Diane Smith. Along with them, she leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews. Jeanne never missed a birthday party, graduation, holiday or major milestone event for any of her grandchildren. Many of her favorite moments were created alongside her grandchildren – hosting regular slumber and pool parties with them, always ending with ice cream sundaes.
She found joy in the simplest things in life – like dining out at various local restaurants, helping her late husband complete puzzles and just spending quality time with her family – especially her great grandchildren, who she would also sing songs to.
Jeanne leaves behind a legacy of kindness and will be greatly missed.
At Jeanne’s request, services will be held privately with a celebration of life for immediate family in the new year.
The family is very appreciative of your support and thoughts during this time.
