Maria “Connie” Borges, 88, of Assonet, MA, passed away on November 24, 2024, after a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease, with her family by her side. She was the beloved wife of Manuel Borges for 67 years. Born in Furnas, São Miguel, Azores, on September 24, 1936, she was the daughter of the late Maria José (Cabral) Costa and João (Fidalgo) Costa.
Connie spent many years as a dedicated employee at CHF Curtain Manufacturing, but her true passion was caring for her children and grandchildren. She loved spending time with good friends, especially camping at Salisbury and Scusset Beach, visiting the Big E, and traveling. A devoted Boston Red Sox fan, Connie found joy in many of life’s simple pleasures.
Connie’s love language was cooking for her family and friends, and nothing brought her more joy than preparing her children and grandchildren’s favorite meals. Christmas Eve, in particular, was always a magical time, filled with delicious food and cherished memories.
She leaves behind two loving daughters, Irene Soares (Bill) of Somerset, MA, and Elaine Frank (Don) of Assonet, MA; three cherished grandchildren, Eric Lebow (Meghan) of New Bedford, MA, Jill Alves (Jeff) of Fall River, MA, and Alysha McNeice (Tom) of Charlestown, MA; and two adored great-grandchildren, Emma and Parker.
Connie was also the loving sister of Dolores Soares, Angie Andrade, and Manuel Costa, and the late Antone, John, and Little John Costa. She will be greatly missed by her many nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.
Visitation will be held Friday from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Auclair Funeral Home, 690 South Main St. Fall River.
Her funeral will be held Saturday, November 30 at 9:00 AM from the funeral home with a Funeral Mass at Holy Name Church, Hanover St. at 10:00 AM.
Entombment in Notre Dame Cemetery to follow.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in her memory to the Alzheimer’s Association or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
Connie’s warmth, generosity, and love for those around her will always be remembered.
