Manuel Freitas

Manuel Freitas, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, and brother, passed away on September 3, 2024, in New London, Connecticut, at the age of 79. Born on December 17, 1944, in Fenais da Ajuda, Ribeira Grande, Manuel's journey through life was marked by his dedication to family, work, and the joys of home.

For 30 years, Manuel served as a machine operator for Nyman Manufacturing in Rhode Island, demonstrating a strong work ethic that his family admired. He was not just a diligent worker; he was also a social butterfly. Known for his warmth and welcoming nature, Manuel loved entertaining friends and family in his home. His door was always open to anyone who wished to visit, reflecting his generous spirit.

Among his many hobbies, gardening held a special place in Manuel's heart. He delighted in planting flowers and grapevines, even going so far as to make his own wine. His love for nurturing life extended beyond plants; he also took great joy in tending to his chickens and cows, finding satisfaction in the simpler pleasures of rural living.

Manuel leaves behind his beloved wife of 51 years, Maria Grace (Janeiro) Freitas, along with their daughter Ana Aiello and son-in-law Joseph Aiello. He was a proud grandfather to twin grandchildren Abigail and Yari Aiello, as well as to Brianna Kissel, who was like a granddaughter to him. His great-grandchildren, Eisley and "Nova Lee", affectionately called him "Visavo," a title that encapsulated the love and joy he brought to all their lives.

He is also survived by his brothers Jacinto and Joaquim Freitas and sisters Neves Soares, Liduina Cunha, and Madalena Macedo, in addition to numerous nieces and nephews who will remember him fondly.

Manuel is predeceased by his parents, Manuel and Isabel (Almeida) Freitas, as well as his sisters Natalia Cardoso and Bella Freitas, who are now reunited with him in eternal peace.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Friday, September 6, 2024, at the Auclair Funeral Home, 690 South Main St. Fall River. 

His funeral service will take place on Saturday, September 7, 2024, at 10:00 AM. Burial will follow at Notre Dame Cemetery.

Manuel Freitas will be profoundly missed by all who were fortunate enough to know him. His legacy of kindness, hard work, and love for family will live on in the hearts of those he touched.
