Madeleine G. (Rivard) Berard

Madeleine G. (Rivard) Berard, 84, of Nichols St., Fall River, formerly of Central Falls, RI, wife of the late Dr. Maurice A. Berard, died suddenly from complications of chronic illness, on Wednesday, March 2, 2011, at her home. Madeleine was a dedicated pianist who worked assiduously at it until the day she died. As a faithful member of the "Association des Francophones", a French speaking group in Fall River, she took pride in her ethnic roots which she solidified during the years she spent in France as a nurse working at a military base in Verdun. Madeleine continued her nursing career for over 30 years until her retirement. She will be missed by her nieces, nephew, and their children as well as her cousins from Central Falls with whom she grew up and who appreciated her yearly holiday culinary celebrations. She leaves 2 sons, Michael C. Berard and his wife Lynne of North Dartmouth, MA, and Marc S. Berard of Fall River; and siblings, Albert Rivard and his wife Janet of Ontario, Canada, and Frances Kadinoff of Newton, MA. She was the mother of the late Robert Berard, who died in infancy, and the daughter of the late Marie A. and Albert L. Rivard. Her funeral will be held Saturday at 1:00 PM from the AUCLAIR FUNERAL HOME, 690 So. Main St., Fall River, with a funeral mass in Holy Name Church, at 2:00 PM. Cremation to follow. Visitation, Saturday, prior to the funeral from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM. LARGE PARKING AREA and BARRIER-FREE ENTRANCE at the rear of funeral home.
