Lucille ("Lulu") M. Lawlor, 97, died January 14, 2024, at Somerset, Massachusetts.
She was born on November 21, 1926, to the large family of Pellegrino and Assunta (Siravo) Cetola in Fall River. She graduated from B.M.C Durfee High School in 1945. She and her first husband, Gerald P. Zide, founded General Cleaning, Inc., and grew it from humble beginnings to the largest cleaning and janitorial company in southeastern Massachusetts.
With her second husband, Arnold J. Lawlor, she managed overseas work for international construction companies on World Bank projects, and they maintained a home in Grasse, on the Cote d'Azur in France.
Lucille had an intellectual, well-read, open-minded attitude, and developed a keen interest in Middle East antiquities, volunteering on several archeological digs in Turkey and Syria.
She and Arnold retired to Stuart, Florida in the 1990s, and returned to Massachusetts in 2000.
Throughout her life, she was always up-to-date, stylish, and maintained many friendships here and abroad.
She is survived by her son, David P. Zide, of Rehoboth, MA, and her daughter, Karel A. Zide, of Opelousas, Louisiana.
Inurnment was in Mt.Hope Cemetery, Swansea.
