Louise Goodrum, 49, of New Bedford, MA, passed unexpectedly on Sunday, December 18. Born in 1962 in Stuttgart, Germany, Louise grew up primarily in the Syracuse, NY area and settled on the coast of Massachusetts near family. She was a 1980 graduate of Nottingham High School, earned her bachelor's degree from Syracuse University and her master's degree in athletic training at the University of Illinois. Louise was the Associate Athletic Director and Senior Woman Administrator at the University of Massachusetts in Dartmouth. She served in her current position since 2007 after working for a year as interim Athletic Director at UMass Dartmouth. A 13-year member of the Corsair staff, she was initially hired in 1998 as head athletic trainer before being promoted to Associate Athletic Director in 2004. She was previously employed as an athletic trainer at St. Lawrence University, Smith College, and Anderson (SC) Junior College. Louise was also an active member of the UMass Dartmouth campus community serving on several search committees, the campus Gender Equity Committee, and the Corsair Hall of Fame Committee. She was a certified athletic trainer and had been a Clinical Instructor for interns in the athletic training program at Bridgewater State University. She also taught courses in Emergency Care, Personal Wellness, and Health. In addition to her work on campus, she served as Treasurer for the eight-team Little East Conference, of which UMass Dartmouth is a member. Since 1996, she had worked for ESPN as the Medical Venue Coordinator at the Summer and Winter X-Games and at the ESPN Great Outdoors Games. She also served as Medical Director at the CAN/AM ice hockey program in Lake Placid, NY. Louise loved nature and considered a walk on the beach with her dog to be a perfect moment. She enjoyed gardening, art, cooking, literature, and music and took pleasure in sharing these hobbies with friends and family. Louise was predeceased by her mother, Marianne (Cruse) Goodrum, in 2000. Surviving are her father, William Goodrum and his companion Gisela Nordby of Syracuse, NY, brothers Ralph Goodrum of Brattleboro, VT, Klaus Goodrum and his wife Angie of Seattle, WA, and Philip Goodrum and his wife Amy of Fabius, NY; nephews Erik, Parker, Nikolas, and Graham; and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins, both in the US and Germany. A CELEBRATION OF HER LIFE WILL BE HELD ON Friday, Feb 17, 2012 FROM 10:00 A.M.TO NOON AT THE Campus of University of Massachusetts Dartmouth, Woodland Commons Building.
