Louis Quintal, 84, formerly of Tucker St. and Milliken Blvd., Fall River, husband of the late Lucienne Y. "Lou" (Boutin) Quintal, died Tuesday, April 29, 2008.
A Fall River Firefighter for 30 years, appointed February 2, 1948 and assigned to Pumper 4, was a Chief's aid for many years and was commended by the Board of Fire Commissioners on January 12, 1958 for the rescue of a 3 year old girl on Rodman St. A 3 ½ year Army veteran of WW II, Corporal Quintal received the Battle of Okinawa Battle Star. Also know as Operation Iceberg, the battle was the largest amphibious assault in the Pacific Theater of WW II.
He leaves 4 daughters, Mrs. Frank (Elizabeth) Costa and Mrs. William (Jacqueline) Grace, all of Fall River, Mrs. Robert (Catherine) Gaw of Tiverton and Susan Quintal of Pikesville, NC; 11 grandchildren, Paul and Frank Costa, Cheryl Viveiros, Sharon Dynan, Robert, Megan and Kyle Gaw, Timothy and Rachel Sutton and Samuel and Tracy Roberts; 8 great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
He was the son of the late Manuel and Maria Gonsalves and the brother of the late Charles, John and Catherine Quintal.
His funeral mass will be held Friday at 10:00 AM at St. Theresa Church, Stafford Rd., Tiverton. Relatives and friends invited. Entombment, private.
