Lloyd A. Holmes, 98, of Fall River, passed away on July 29, 2022 at Sarah Brayton Nursing Home.
He was the husband of Alice (Cabral) Holmes. They were happily married for over 77 years.
Born in Georgia, he was the son of the late Brady and Susan (Childers) Holmes.
Lloyd served in the U.S. Navy during WWII from 1942 - 1945. During this time, he notably served on the USS Fuller and the USS Roxane (AKA-37). He attended Landing Craft School and proudly served on a Landing Craft Schooner.
In his career, Lloyd operated Holmes and Son Construction with his son for 5 years. He also worked as a machine operator at Swan Finishing Co. for over 25 years. Lloyd then went on to become the owner and operator of Alice’s Trolley Stop in Charlestown, New Hampshire for over 6 years.
Lloyd enjoyed traveling and going to the casino.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughter, Charlotte Bruneau of Fall River; his grandchildren: Lisa Otis (Tim) of Dighton, Wendy Holmes of Dighton, Scott Holmes (Jodi) of Westport, and Robert Scanlon (Anne) of Walpole, NH; 9 great-grandchildren, and 6 great-great-grandchildren.
He was the father of the late Lloyd B. Holmes; grandfather of the late James K. Scanlon and Heidi Bruneau; and brother of the late Oneda Babb, Betty Bredeson, Leonard Holmes, Rembert Holmes, and Herbert Holmes.
Services will be private.
