Leonard F. Mournighan, 92, of Attleboro, MA, died Saturday, June 7, 2014, after a long illness. He was the son of the late Leonard F. and Marguerite (Hughes) Mournighan. He was a long time resident of the Attleboros and lived in Leesburg, FL, from 2007 to 2013. He retired from Corning Glass Works, Central Falls, RI, where he was an active member of the Glass Workers Union. After retiring, he worked as a part-time employee of Willow Tree Farm Store, in Attleboro, MA. He was a former member of the Knights of Columbus. He was an active volunteer in the launch of the first recycling program in Attleboro. He was a World War II Army Veteran where he was an MP serving to transport German WWII prisoners or wounded American Service men across the United States. This led to a lifelong fascination and appreciation for trains and railroad history. Leonard was the husband of the late Rita (Seguin) Mournighan. He is survived by his 5 children, Edward Mournighan of Indianapolis, IN; William Mournighan of Leesburg, FL; Eileen Tilque of Salem, OR; Rosemary Alves of Pascoag, RI; and Mary Buttrick of Bourne, MA; 14 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild; 1 brother, Richard Mournighan; and 2 sisters, Marguerite McLaughlin and Frances McGowen. He was predeceased by a brother, Irving Mournighan. A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday, June 23, 2014, at 10:00 AM, at Sacred Heart Church, 58 Church Street, N. Attleboro, MA. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his memory to the Alzheimer's Foundation of America.
