Lena (Sabik) Cory

Lena (Sabik) Cory, 81, of Fall River, wife of the late Thomas F. Cory, Jr. died Sunday, August 19, 2012 after a short illness. She was the daughter of the late Joseph and Lena (Gajda) Sabik and the sister of the late Lucy Kaegael and Joseph Sabik, Jr. She was employed by the Fall River 5 Cents Savings bank for 28 years, having served as the branch manager at several of the banks locations. She was a member of Credit Women International. She was further employed for the last six years as the telephone receptionist at Standard Pharmacy on East Main Street. She was a lifelong member of the Blessed Trinity Polish National Catholic Church, and served as a member of the parish committee for over thirty years. She volunteered at all parish functions, pinched pierogi, rolled golumbki, and fried the chrust, she inherited the position of the maker of the famous "Trinity Polish Hamburgers" and was a member of the original bread baking crew. She served on the Board of Directors of People Inc., for over twenty years. She coordinated and served as chairperson for the annual Dine with the Stars event for 16 years. She was a Bank Five/WSAR Hometown Hero, and received a State of Massachusetts Volunteer Award. She was a proud graduate of the B.M.C. Durfee High School Class of 1948. She and her husband spent 35 years as summer residents at "Round Meadows" in Little Compton. She and her late husband hosted family events during the summer at Round Meadows and the rest of the year at the family home. It was not unusual to have a dozen or more for Sunday dinner. She is survived by six children: Barbara Cory, Thomas Cory, John Cory, Christine Cory, Lisa Cory, all of Fall River, and Michael Cory and his wife Lucy of Westport. She also leaves seven grandchildren, Robert and Matthew Robillard, Kerri Cory Moniz and her husband Andrew, Jennifer, Derick, Rachel, and Chelsy Cory, and three great-grandchildren, Cameron, Jade-Alexis, and Kherington Moniz, several nieces and nephews, and her friend, chauffeur, and confident, Timothy Marques. Following cremation, relatives and friends are invited to a memorial mass on Saturday, August 25, 2012 at 2:00 P.M. in Blessed Trinity Church, 1340 Plymouth Ave, Fall River. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the Blessed Trinity Building Fund for the Bell Carillion System, 1340 Plymouth Ave, Fall River, MA 02721.
