Joseph Souza

Joseph Souza, 75, of William St., Fall River, formerly of Watuppa Heights, husband of Dorothy (Houde) Souza, died Tuesday, August 3, 2010. An Army veteran of the Korean War, he was employed by Frito Lay and was a custodian for the Dartmouth School Department and the Fall River Police Department. An Auxiliary Police Lieutenant, Bonded Constable and Notary Public, he was a Life Member and Past Commander of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post 486, Past District Commander of the Massachusetts VFW, Co-founder and Director of the Fall River Police Athletic League Police Cadets and Past-president of both the Oliveira Apartments Tenant Organization and Senior Citizens Club. Besides his wife of 56 years, he leaves 8 children, Bruce Souza (JoAnn), Wayne Souza, Sr. (Diane), Richard Souza (Daisy), John Souza (Judith), Debra Finch (Darwin), Florence Humphreys (Christopher) and Brenda Francisco (Victor), all of Fall River and Mark Souza (Lisa) of Swansea; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; siblings, Manuel J. Souza of Tiverton and Natalie Boissonneault of Fall River and nieces and nephews. He was the son of the late Francisco "Frank" and Florence (Medeiros) Souza and the brother of the late Lillian Melanson, Delores McHague and Aldina Medeiros. His funeral will be held Friday at 11:00 AM from the AUCLAIR FUNERAL HOME, 690 So. Main St., Fall River, with a funeral mass in Holy Cross Church of Saints Peter and Paul Parish at 12:00 Noon. Burial, Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne. Visitation, Thursday 4:00 to 8:00 PM. LARGE PARKING AREA and BARRIER-FREE ENTRANCE at the rear of funeral home. Please omit flowers.
