Joseph "Moxie" Marques

August 6, 1930 — May 18, 2011

Joseph "Moxie" Marques, 80, of Fall River, died Wednesday, May 18, 2011. An Army veteran of the Korean War, he owned the "Flat Iron Building" and owned and operated the Nashua Café and M & K Variety. An avid card player, he enjoyed poker at Foxwoods and was a member of Blondie's & Scottie's Pitch Leagues. He leaves his former wife, Barbara (Borden) Marques, daughters, Patricia Fitta and her husband Edward, Jo-Ann Gelfuso, and Debra Pelletier and her husband Fall River City Councilor Leo O. Pelletier; granddaughters, Sarah and Jennifer Fitta; a brother, Jerome "Jerry" Marques, all of Fall River; and a niece. He was the father of the late Arthur "Artie" Marques; and the son of the late Ferdinand and Mary (Mello) Marques. His funeral will be held Saturday at 8:00 AM from the AUCLAIR FUNERAL HOME, 690 So. Main St., Fall River, with a funeral mass in St. Anne Church, at 9:00 AM. Entombment, Notre Dame Cemetery Mausoleum. Visitation, Friday 4:00 to 8:00 PM. LARGE PARKING AREA and BARRIER-FREE ENTRANCE at the rear of funeral home. Donations may be made to American Cancer Society, 30 Speen St., Framingham MA 01701.
