Joseph M. Souza, 88, of Globe St., Fall River, husband of Dorothy (DeCouto) Souza, died Thursday, May 7, 2009.
An Army veteran of WW II and recipient of the Bronze Star, Purple Heart and European African Middle Eastern Theater Campaign medals, he and his wife owned and operated the Dairy Freeze, Globe St., for 50 years. He enjoyed oil painting and was an opera enthusiast.
Besides is wife of 60 years, he leaves, 2 children, David J. Souza, Sr. and his wife Mary Ellen of Fall River and Barbara Souza and her husband Edward Munns of Valrico, FL; 5 grandchildren, David J. Souza, Jr., Heather Pavao, Gregory Souza, Gene Souza-Lyle and Elliott Souza-Lyle; 8 great-grandchildren; siblings, Milton Souza of Somerville and Irene Grenier of FL and nieces and nephews. He was the son of the late Manuel and Ida (Doucette) Souza and the brother of the late Lillian Simmons, Dorothy Ramsey and Raymond Souza.
His funeral service will be held Wednesday at 11:00 AM in the AUCLAIR FUNERAL HOME, 690 So. Main St., Fall River. Burial, Oak Grove Cemetery.
Visitation, Tuesday 4:00 to 8:00 PM. LARGE PARKING AREA and BARRIER-FREE ENTRANCE at the rear of funeral home.
