Joseph E. Furtado, Jr.

Joseph E. “Sunny” Furtado, Jr., FRFD, Ret., 78, of Fall River, passed away Friday, October 20, 2023.

He was the husband of Barbara J. (Anderson) for the past 20 years and the husband of the late Maura Furtado.

Now retired, Joseph was employed by the City of Fall River Fire Department as a Firefighter /  EMT.  He was stationed with Aerialscope 1, and later with the Fire Prevention Bureau as an Inspector and finished his career as a Fire Alarm Dispatcher.

He was an Air Force Veteran of the Vietnam War. Joseph was an avid bowler at Holiday Lanes, Westport and a member of the Fall River Elks Club.

Besides his wife, he leaves a son, Timothy Furtado and a daughter, Thérèsa Furtado; and was the father of the late Joey Furtado and Sean Furtado;

He also leaves a stepdaughter Stephanie Marovelli, stepson John Taylora and was the stepfather of the late Anwhitney Taylor; three grandchildren, three step-grandchildren; five siblings, Peggy Letourneau, Mike Furtado, Jeff Furtado, Kathy Furtado and Sandy Bouffard; many nieces and nephews and was predeceased by his cherished animal companion, “Rocko”.
