Joseph F. Dumais

Joseph F. Dumais, 90, of Fall River, formerly of No. Main St., Fall River and Wilbur Ave., Somerset, died Thursday, January 26, 2006 at Highlander Rehabilitation and Nursing Center. He was the husband of the late Helen M. (Brickhill) Dumais and the late Regina M. "Jeanne" (MacElderry) Olivieri Dumais. Born in Fall River, the son of the late Joseph and Clara (Chartier) Dumais, he lived in Fall River most of his life, wintering in Coral Springs, Florida for many years and having also resided in Trinidad, British Virgin Islands for a few years. He founded, owned and operated the former Joseph F. Dumais Co. He was a 25 year member of Holy Name Parish, a life member of the B.P.O. Elks and was one of the original three men who began the "Over the Hill Gang" which has grown to more than 700 members. An eleventh great-grandson of Guillaume Chartier, one of the first settlers of Montreal, as listed in the Memoirs of Montreal's Notre Dame Cathedral, he was made an honorary citizen of Frnce at the 350th. celebration of the 1649 crossing from LaFleche, France to Montreal. Survivors include 2 sisters, Rita Harrington of Cranston, RI and Mae Greeley of Fall River; his brother-in-law Raymond E. Greeley of Fall River; a stepdaughter, Sister Lisa Olivieri, SSJ of Philadelphia; a stepson, Dr. Robert Olivieri of Avalon, NJ; 10 nieces and nephews, Barbara Aldridge of Louisville, KY, Mary A. Fitzpatrick of Somerset and Gayle Riley of Fall River, Lois M. Robin of Fall River, Carol Hester of Worcester, John Gaskell and Pamela Cox, both of Warwick, RI, Calla Gaudette of Springfield, MA, William Stowell of Tiverton and Kerry Greeley of Fairhaven. He was the brother of the late Charles and Leo Dumais, Irene Stowell, Yvonne Wilcox, Lauretta Gaskell and Rose Pearson, the stepfather of the late John Olivieri and the uncle of the late Donna Philbin and Richard Harrington. His funeral will be held Monday at 9:00 AM from the AUCLAIR FUNERAL HOME, 690 So. Main St., Fall River, with a funeral mass in Holy Name Church at 10:00. Burial, Notre Dame Cemetery. Calling hours Sunday 3:00 to 7:00 PM. LARGE PARKING AREA and barrier-free entrance to the rear of funeral home.
