John C. Sousa, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on September 11, 2024, in Fall River. Born on August 2, 1947, John lived a life that resonated with family values, hard work, and a passion for sports and craftsmanship.
A native of St. Michael, Azores, John began his career as a manager at a men's clothing store. His dedication to quality was evident when, during lunch breaks, he would bring home suits for his wife, Lucia, to alter—demonstrating a profound partnership that defined their life together. After relocating to the United States, John continued to exemplify hard work and entrepreneurship as he and Lucia became the proprietors of Stewart Street Market. His knack for customer service and product knowledge allowed him to thrive in this new venture.
Later in his career, John transitioned to The Home Depot, where he worked as a Sales Representative in the Plumbing Department. His extensive knowledge and passion for home improvement were evident to both colleagues and customers alike.
Outside of work, John had many interests that reflected his vibrant personality. He was an avid fan of the Boston Celtics and cherished the moments spent watching games with his son, David. He had a love for organizing his tools and often envisioned future projects that he could take on, showcasing his hands-on approach to life.
John is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Lucia (Pacheco) Sousa; his children, Cristina Sousa-Jorge (husband Tony Jorge), Dave (fiancée Kelly Pereira), and Alexandria Grace (husband Steven Grace); as well as his cherished grandchildren, Mariah A. Grace, Benjamin J. Grace, Hannah R. Grace, and Amelia R. Grace. He will be deeply missed by his family and all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
John was predeceased by his parents, Joao Tavares Sousa and Maria Jose (Vasconcelos) Sousa.
His legacy of love, dedication, and kindness will forever remain in the hearts of those he leaves behind.
Arrangements were private.
