John Simmons, Sr., 82, of Hathaway St., Fall River, died at home, Monday, January 5, 2007. He was the husband of the late Lillian (Souza) Simmons. Born in Westport, the son of the late Jesse and Emma (Ouellette) Simmons, he lived in Fall River for many years. A baker, he was employed by A & P Bakery and Entenmann's Bakery in New York and Bertha's Bakery and Plourde's Bakery in Fall River. An Army veteran of WW II, he was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post 5392, Tiverton. Survivors include a son, John Simmons, Jr. and his wife Joan of South Carolina; 2 daughters, Donna Davide and Sherry A. LeDuc-Brousseau, both of Fall River; a brother, Jesse Simmons of Westport; 2 sisters, Lillian Balek of Florida and Eva Boback of Westport; 13 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, a great-great-grandchild and nieces and nephews. He was the father of the late Rosemarie Silvia Nemier and the brother of the late James Simmons, Joseph Simmons and Rose Sherry. His funeral service will be held Wednesday at 12:00 noon in the AUCLAIR FUNERAL HOME, 690 So. Main St., Fall River. Burial, Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne. Visitation, Wednesday morning prior to the service from 11:00 AM to 12:00 noon. LARGE PARKING AREA and barrier-free entrance at the rear of funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care, 502 Bedford St., Fall River MA 02720.
