John P. Deschenes, 56, of Davis Rd., Westport, MA, formerly of Fall River and Swansea, husband of Deborah J. (Messier) Deschenes, died Saturday, December 25, 2010. A liquor store manager, he had been employed by 1776 Liquors, Fall River and Tanza Liquors, and more recently was employed by People's Super Liquor Stores, Inc. at several of their locations, presently at Douglas Wine and Spirits, New Bedford. A Msgr. Prevost-Bishop Connolly High School graduate and Junior Achievement volunteer, he was a former member of the Buggy Bowlers Bowling League. An avid sports fan and wine connoisseur, he enjoyed travel, gambling, hiking and skiing. Besides his wife of 30 years, he leaves siblings, Christine (Theberge) Menard and Paul Theberge, both of Florida, Normand Theberge and Jill (Deschenes) Mercier of Fall River; and nieces and nephews. He was the son of the late Romeo Deschenes and Christine (Stuart) Theberge Deschenes and the brother of the late Vivian (Deschenes) Vezina and James Deschenes. Following cremation, a memorial mass will be held Saturday, January 8, in Holy Name Church, Hanover St., Fall River, at 9:00 AM. A repast at White's of Westport to follow.
