John R. Arruda

John R. Arruda, born in Tiverton on June 26, 1923 and long-time resident of Fall River, passed into eternal rest on August 10, 2011. Son of the late Antone & Ambrozina (Cambra) Arruda. He worked at Osiason Mattress Company of Fall River and Worley Mattress of New Bedford. He retired from the FR Line Pier where he was foreman. An Army WWII Veteran recipient of Good Conduct, Victory Medal, and European Theatre Ribbon, he served in the National Guard and was a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans. He was the commander of The Junior Naval Cadets at Battleship Cove. A loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. In addition to his wife, Geraldine F. Belanger, he leaves his children John R. & Barbara Arruda Jr. of Swansea, Rosemary & John Garcia of South Carolina, Pastor David & Jane Arruda of Somerset, Sharon & Paul Solomon of Dartmouth, Robert A. Belanger of Florida, Suzanne & Stephen Powers of Fall River, Michelle & Michael Angell of Tiverton, 23 grandchildren & 17 great-grandchildren, his siblings Constance Mantez & Margorie Almeida of Fall River & Alfred Arruda of Washington. He joins his son, the late Joseph Arruda of South Carolina, and his brothers and sisters. A funeral mass will be September 3, 2011@ 10:00 St. Anne Church, Fall River.
