Jeanne (Caya) Crockett

August 14, 1937 — March 30, 2022

Jeanne (Caya) Crockett, 84, passed away peacefully in her sleep, Wednesday, March 30, 2022 at Catholic Memorial Home.

Jeanne was an accomplished woman with many interests. Chief among them was her love of cooking, baking and entertaining. She organized and hosted fabulous dinner parties and Holiday feasts often regaling guests with colorful stories as she did so. She also had a wonderful singing voice. As a young girl she sang in many shows and choir performances. Many of these occasions were associated with her alma mater Sacred Heart Academy. She also made, and retained, lifelong friendships with several of her classmates. Attending Sacred Heart was a highlight for her. In college, where she studied fashion design, she was the only female member of the Durfee Tech men’s fencing team. She was also a lifelong animal advocate, caring for a myriad of pets as a child, including a horse, an endless array of injured birds, and various aquatic creatures scooped from nearby ponds. As an adult she always supported the ASPCA. She doted on her cat Molly for as long as her health allowed.

After college Jeanne spent time living in New York City working as a window dresser at Macy’s. She had fond memories of that time in her life. Jeanne was employed for many years by the Fall River public schools, where she was affectionately known as Jeanne Xerox. She was also proud of her work in the Fall River public schools summer migrant program. In later years Jeanne was a manager at the Saucony Sneaker Outlet in Fall River.

Jeanne was the daughter of the late John A. and Augustine (Vaillancourt) Caya. Both John and Augustine came from large families. Jeanne grew up surrounded by aunts, uncles, and cousins, and delighted in recalling an exciting childhood full of adventure, noise, and the comfort and chaos of a large family. She held a special admiration and respect for her Father.

She was the wife of the late James Crockett. Jeanne leaves a son, Jason Medeiros of Somerset; a daughter, Amanda C. Medeiros of Fall River;

Four stepchildren, James Crockett, Joseph Crockett, Jennifer Crockett and Jon Crockett;

Three grandchildren, Jacob Medeiros, John Medeiros and Nicholas Medeiros,

Nine step-grandchildren, Alby Tavares, Jason Tavares, Janelle Williams, Aidan Crockett, Caroline Crockett, Amy Sparr, Stephanie Crockett, Jimmy Crockett, and Candi Bolton.

There are also Eighteen great grandchildren.
