Jean-Louis Clapin

August 10, 1930 — August 3, 2017

Jean-Louis Clapin, 86, of Westport, husband of the late Pauline L. (Beaupré) Clapin, passed away Thursday, August 3, 2017.

A graduate of Msgr. Prevost High School and member of the Prevost Alumni Association, he earned his Master's Degree in Education from Fitchburg State College. A Navy veteran of the Korean War, he operated, with his family, the former French language newspaper "L'Indépendant", owned and operated the former Independent Press and the Copy N' Print and taught Industrial Arts for 27 years at Morton Junior High School and Durfee High School.

He was Charter Member of the Club Richelieu of Fall River, Vice President of Richelieu International, was Westport Registrar of Voters for many years, member of the Notre Dame Credit Union Board of Directors, Past-president of Massachusetts Retired Educators Association, Past-president of the Westport Veterans of Foreign Wars, and a member of the Westport American Legion, St. Jean Baptiste Society, First Friday Club, Association Francophone, Lafayette House and the Franco American Civic League.

He leaves four children, Gisele Parent and her husband Ronald of Swansea, Philippe Clapin of Fall River, Roseanne Amaral and her husband James of Dartmouth and Jeannine Carreiro and her husband Marc of Fall River; five grandchildren, Danielle and Renée Parent, Chase Amaral and Samantha and Cody Carreiro; siblings, Mariette Gendreau of Portsmouth, RI and Monique Oliveira of Fall River; and nieces and nephews. He was the son of the late Louis-Philipe and Aldea (Lincourt) Clapin and the brother of the late Leopold D. "Leo" Clapin.

His funeral will be held Monday at 7:45 AM from the Auclair Funeral Home, 690 So. Main St., Fall River, with a funeral mass at St. Bernadette Church, Eastern Ave., Fall River, at 9:00 AM. Entombment, Notre Dame Cemetery Mausoleum.

Visitation, Sunday from 5:00 to 8:00 PM. Large parking area & barrier-free entrance at the rear of funeral. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to American Diabetes Association, 260 Cochituate Rd., # 200, Framingham MA 01701 or National Kidney Foundation, 85 Astor Ave., Norwood MA 02062.
