Shrewsbury - Janine Landry Carleton, 57, of Shrewsbury, MA passed away Tuesday, December 12, 2017, in Assonet, MA surrounded by her loving family.
A devoted wife and mother, Janine was the daughter of Robert N. Landry and the late Louise (Renaud) Landry, and the niece of the late Jeanne (Renaud) Marcoux and the late Sister Denise Renaud, R.J.M.
Janine was born and raised in Fall River, MA. A graduate of Bishop Gerrard High School Class of 1978, Janine earned a Bachelor's Degree in Social Work from Southeastern Massachusetts University. She worked as a social worker at various group homes before joining the Department of Mental Health for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts as a Case Manager in both Worcester and North Grafton. Throughout her professional life, Janine was a tireless and devoted advocate for those in need.
Janine leaves behind her devoted husband Michael, her two beloved daughters Gracie & Chloe, her father Robert Landry and her "bonus mom" Jackie Maltais, her siblings Denise Andrade and her husband Raymond, William Landry and his wife Martha, Marc Landry and his wife Leigea, as well as many loving nieces, nephews, cousins and close friends.
Janine was a "people person" always putting others before herself. No matter how much she had on her plate, she was the first to volunteer for anything that needed to be done. With her upbeat attitude and zest for life, Janine's happiest days were those spent at the family summer cottage on Lake Watuppa in Westport which she lovingly referred to as her "Happy Place" and where she welcomed so many of her family's friends. Her "Watuppa Family" will especially miss hearing her yell "Woo HOO" as she gleefully sped away from the dock in her boat aptly named "Family Ties".
Despite her health challenges, Janine never complained but instead expressed gratitude for the life and time she was given. Her family would like to extend their thanks and gratitude to the compassionate doctors and staff at Harvard Vanguard Medical Center in Boston who became like family to her throughout her long, valiant battle with breast cancer. Her family would also like to acknowledge and thank her cousin Dr. Paul Marcoux who so often provided much needed support and guidance.
Family and friends are invited to attend a Funeral Mass on Saturday, January 6th, at 11AM at St. Bernard's Church, 30 South Main St. Assonet, MA 02702 followed by a Celebration of Life at White's of Westport, 66 State Rd. Westport, MA 02790.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Janine's memory to the Religious of Jesus and Mary Retirement Fund, 92 School St. Plainville, MA 02762 or to the charity of your choice.
