James D. "Jim" Gagne, 57, passed away on October 24, 2024, at St. Luke's Hospital in New Bedford after a courageous battle with cancer. Born on November 27, 1966, in Fall River, Jim lived a life marked by compassion, humor, and an enduring care for those around him.
A graduate of Diman Regional Vocational Technical High School, Jim followed his passion for plumbing and became a master plumber, pridefully owning his own business, James D. Gagne Plumbing and Heating. His expertise and dedication to his craft earned him the respect of both clients and colleagues alike. Yet, it was not just his professional accomplishments that defined him; it was his warmth and ability to bring joy to any situation, often showcased through his great talent for telling jokes.
He was well known for his culinary skills, especially his Christmas prime rib and his country music singing.
Jim was a man of many interests. He found solace in fishing, left his mark through woodworking, and embraced the thrill of travel, exploring new places and experiences. His laughter and the memories he created continue to resonate with those fortunate enough to know him.
He leaves behind his fiancée and longtime companion Kirsten Sullivan with whom he shared life's greatest moments, his daughter, Jocelyn Cardoso and her husband Eric, and his grandchildren, Adrian and Benjamin; Jim's mother, Claire M. Gagne, alongside his brothers, Richard P. Gagne and his wife Donna, and Michael S. Gagne, and his nieces, and the Sullivan and Steliga families, have all felt the impact of his loving spirit. He was the son of the late Paul A. Gagne.
Jim's legacy is one defined by love, laughter, and kindness, leaving a lasting impression on everyone he met. He will be profoundly missed but fondly remembered by his family and friends as a compassionate and caring man who always made time for others. As they gather to celebrate his life, they will hold tightly to the memories of him—a wonderful storyteller, a loving father, and a true friend to many.
