James E. Darcy, 63, a resident at Wingate Residences on Blackstone Boulevard (“The
Neighborhood”), died quietly surrounded by his family on May 5 th after a five-year battle
with early onset of Alzheimer’s disease. He was the husband of the late Sharon (Irons)
Darcy, and father to two sons, Ian J., and Ethan J. Darcy, both of Hanover, MA.
Born on Jan. 29, 1961, at the US Naval Hospital in Newport, James was the son of the
late John and Yvette (Levesque) Darcy. He was brother to three siblings: Joan D.
Simmons of Rehoboth, Msgr. John J. Darcy, (Pastor Emeritus, St. Margaret Parish) of
Falmouth, MA, and Joyce A. Darcy of Tiverton, and his nephew, Alexander S. Martins of
Warren.
Jim was the 1,000th graduate of the former Bishop Connelly High School in 1979.
He graduated from the University of Massachusetts-Dartmouth in 1983, MBA, Providence College in 1993, and later earned a CPA from Bentley University in 2003.
Raising his sons in Hanover, Jim was involved in youth sports, the local Republican
Party, and St. Mary Parish. He worked for Hasbro, Talbots, and as a senior systems
analyst for EMD Serono of Rockland, MA. After his diagnosis, Jim stayed in Hanover
with his family for as long as possible. The early onset of Alzheimer’s required
residency in the memory care unit at Wingate on Blackstone Blvd., Providence.
The staff and other residents in “The Neighborhood” always commented on Jim’s gentle
and kind nature, and quiet wit. Even in his declining health, Jim always extended his
assistance to his “neighbors” in the memory care unit. He will be missed by his friends
in “The Neighborhood” and the very caring staff that took great care of him. His family
also acknowledges the kindness and guidance of Wingate’s professionals. They
coordinated very well with the chaplains and staff of Hope Hospice Care of RI. The
family sincerely appreciates their expressions of support and sympathy at this time.
Public calling hours will be on Monday, May 13 at the Auclair Funeral Home, 690 South
Main Street, Fall River from 4-7 pm.
His funeral will be held Tuesday, May 14 at 9:00 AM from the funeral home with a
Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at the Church of the Good Shepherd,
1598 South Main Street, Fall
River, MA at 10:00 AM.
