Irene D. Isabel, age 87 of Fall River, passed away on June 26, 2015 at the Somerset Ridge Rehabilitation Center following a brief illness. She was born on April 9, 1928. She was reunited in heaven with her husband, the late George E. Isabel, a decorated WWII Veteran who founded Vets Cab Company of Fall River, with Irene as the bookkeeper for nearly 40 years. She was a daughter of the late Alfred and Philomena Dupras Vadeboncoeur of Fall River. A great typist, she worked as a part-time secretary/receptionist for her daughter, Linda L. Clarke ,in her Swansea law office from 1993 through 1998. She attended Sacred Heart Academy but did not have the opportunity to graduate. At age 72, she went back to complete her high school education, receiving her GED at age 73 from Bristol Community College. She enjoyed dining out frequently, spending time with her family, doing crossword puzzles, reading and catalog shopping. She spoke on the phone daily with her sister, Mary, in Virginia. She especially liked small home renovation projects and as soon as one was completed, another began. She enjoyed occasional travel with her two daughters to Florida and visiting her sister in Virginia. She was a big fan of Johnnie Cash and Lawrence Welk. She had been an active member of the Crossroads Bible Chapel in Dartmouth, Massachusetts. She was able to live independently in her home until her illness as a result of the daily care and assistance provided by her daughter, Irene. She was a devoted mother and homemaker and is survived by her four children, George P. Isabel of Somerset, Linda L. Clarke, Esquire of Portsmouth, Rhode Island, Russell H. Isabel of Westport, and Irene C. Asakli of Somerset; eleven grandchildren, Sherry L. Kourtesis, Melissa J. Dias, Jerilyn A. Clarke, Esquire, Jill E. Oliveira, Adam A. Asakli, Amy L. DaSilva, Stephanie A. Benjamin, Russell, Jessica, Scottie and Sarah Isabel; fourteen great-grandchildren; her sisters, Mary Walker of Virginia, and Lorraine Galego of Somerset; her brothers, Wilfred Vadeboncoeur of Fall River, and Edward Vadeboncoeur of Cape Cod, and several nieces and nephews. She was also sister to the late Rita Carreiro of Florida, Arthur Vadeboncoeur of Virginia, and Henry Vadeboncoeur of Somerset. Relatives and friends are invited and may call on Sunday, June 28, 2015 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Auclair Funeral Home, 690 South Main Street, Fall River. A private burial will be held Monday, June 29, 2015 at 9:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Compassionate Care Hospice, 174 Dean St., Suite B, Taunton MA 02780.
