Idola (Auclair) Fairtile, 98, wife of the late Dr. F. Malcolm "Mac" Fairtile, passed away on Saturday, May 7, 2011 in Rhode Island with her family by her side. Daughter of the late Valeda (LeBoeuf) and Francois Xavier "F.X ." Auclair, she was born on September 10, 1912 in Fall River, Massachusetts. Idola resided in Tiverton for most of her life. She and Mac retired in Hilton Head, SC and Wolfeboro, NH, and in 2007 moved back to Rhode Island to be with family. She was a gifted painter who preferred watercolor landscapes and seascapes and, through this gift taught her family to appreciate and value nature. She loved watching birds and the Audubon books were among her favorites. An avid reader, she always looked forward to the next novel on the best-seller list, and crossword puzzles were part of her daily routine. She created wonderful floral arrangements from "Mac's garden" and was a member of the Tiverton Garden Club where she won numerous awards over the years. Idola was an active leader in the Girl Scouts of America and lead her troop to earn their Curved Bar award. Her love of fashion and the arts was evident every day of her life. She will be missed. She is survived by two daughters, Stephanie Fairtile of Tiverton, and Martha Lametta and husband, Michael of Connecticut; her beloved grandchildren, Adam Lametta and Lindsay Fairtile and fiancé Alan Doucet; great-grandchildren, Anthony Lametta and Sofie and Tyler Doucet; siblings, Colette Desmarais and husband Rene of Portsmouth, RI and Paul Auclair and wife Noreen of Bristol, RI; and nieces and nephews. She was pre-deceased by three brothers, Fernand, Robert, and George Auclair and one sister, Gertrude Mercier. Stephanie and Martha are holding a celebration in honor of both their parent's lives at Sakonnet Bay Manor, 1215 Main Rd., Tiverton, on Saturday, May 21, at 11:00 AM. An interment at Oak Grove Cemetery in Fall River, MA will be privately held. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Parkinson's Disease Assn., 72 E.
